One of Kansas' newer Veterans' Cemeteries is located in Northwest Kansas right off I-70 at Exit 128 and then north ½ mile.
The Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at WaKeeney was dedicated on September 10, 2004, with the completion of Phase I to honor our fallen heroes. Phase I includes 12 acres and is attractively landscaped with a rolling hill effect. The drive through the cemetery is adorned with flags, which makes an impressive view. The Cemetery staff offers tours of the cemetery and shares information about the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery Program to local organizations. The Cemetery staff is dedicated to assisting our Veterans' and their families and continues to provide a beautiful Cemetery that honors each of them. Schedule a tour or stop by the Cemetery for a visit or to pre-certify a burial at the Cemetery. The staff also gives flag folding demonstrations and organizes special Veterans' Day and Memorial Day Services. The administrative office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The front gates of the cemetery are open from 8 a.m. to dusk, seven days a week. This final resting place for Veterans shows them that America will never forget them.
