Cedar Bluff is named after the 100-foot tall, cedar-covered, limestone bluffs which rise above the south shoreline.   Construction began in 1949 and was completed in 1951.   It quickly became a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts in western Kansas and consists of over 15,000 acres of water and wildlife area.   Cedar Bluff is located thirteen miles south of I-70 Exit 135 on KS Hwy 147 in west central Kansas.   It’s also a large part of the Smoky Valley Scenic Byway which travels through the area.   A drive to the Bluff Overlook on the south shore provides a spectacular view of the area and is a great location from which to view wildlife.
